Legends and All-Stars help raise over €17k for charity
OVER €17,000 was raised for children’s charity LauraLynn as a result of a charity match featuring League of Ireland Legends, and a raffle, in Kingswood and Saggart last Saturday, August 12.
The match was held in Roadstone Sports Club in Kingswood and featured the Saggart-based Jacob’s Pub All-Stars playing against the League of Ireland Legends team.
Among the players who lined out for the League of Ireland Legends team were Hoops manager Stephen Bradley, and Stephen McPhail, Jason Byrne, Richie Baker and Dessie Baker.
The match was watched by over 200 spectators, who witnessed the nail-biting game ending with a score of 4-3 to the League of Ireland Legends.
The event was organised by four local men, Graham Keane from Citywest, Robert McCarthy from Rathcoole, and Mark Hutchinson and James Doyle from Saggart.
Graham Keane told The Echo: “There was a really good atmosphere, everyone was in good spirits, and it was great for some of the spectators to see some fantastic ex-professional players.
“We know of the lads from the League of Ireland from over the years and once they heard the match was for charity, they got involved straight away.

“We expected the match to be close, because there were some active players who were playing for the Jacob’s Pub All-Stars.”
The match was followed by a barbecue reception in Jacob’s pub in Saggart, where the raffle was held and also spot prizes were given on the night.
Reflecting on how the event went, Graham said: “I’m very happy with the amount of money that was raised, it’s a tough thing to do, but it was enjoyable.
“I’m very proud of all of the people who were involved.
“I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped to make it happen.
“Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do it, we were just steering the bus.
“It was a huge effort, and the generosity of people was unbelievable.”
