‘Legends’ tog out for LauraLynn against All-Stars
A TEAM of League of Ireland legends will play a charity match against the Saggart-based Jacob’s Pub All-Stars in the Roadstone Sports Club in Kingswood this Saturday, August 12, at 5pm.
The aim of the event is to raise funds for children’s charity LauraLynn through holding the match, and a raffle with a variety of prizes including TVs, nights away and signed Shamrock Rovers jerseys.
Among the players lining out for the League of Ireland Legends team are Hoops manager Stephen Bradley, Stephen McPhail, Jason Byrne, Richie Baker and Dessie Baker.
The event has been organised by four local men, Graham Keane from Citywest, Robert McCarthy from Rathcoole, and Mark Hutchinson and James Doyle from Saggart.
They previously raised over €10,000 for the cancer ward in Crumlin Children’s Hospital several years ago as a result of a charity match and are hoping to raise several thousand for LauraLynn this time.
Explaining why LauraLynn is the chosen charity for this year’s charity match, Graham told The Echo: “I think it’s because it’s a children’s charity, and we all have kids.
“When you read about LauraLynn, it’s actually quite sad, and we just want to make sure sick children and their families are comfortable during such a difficult time.”
The match will be followed by a barbecue reception in Jacob’s pub in Saggart, with spot prizes up for grabs on the night.
Raffle tickets are available for €10 each, and can be purchased by donating €10 to Charity Match and emailing your details to Graham at grahamkeane0876@gmail.com.
