Leinster School Titles for Tallaght Athletes

TALLAGHT athletes produced some excellent performances to secure titles at the Leinster Schools T&F Championships in Santry last week.

Indeed, Uche Disu was in top form for Old Bawn Community School when storming to victory to win both the senior girls 100m (12.40, P.B.) and 200m (25.05, P.B.), with Joanna Shodipo (St Paul’s, Greenhills) and Ellie Carruth (Firhouse C.C.) finishing 5th and 6th respectively in the same final.

Gloria Oigbochie also topped the podium for Old Bawn in the Inter girls 100m with a new P.B. of 12.28, and she later added silver in the 200m with a time of 25.28. with Brianna-Dwyer Carty (Newpark Comprehensive) stepping up a gear to take bronze in the Inter girls 300m with a time of 40.57 after finishing in 6th in the 200m with a time of 25.36.

Dubem Amah, was in superb form, producing two excellent performances to win both the Inter boys 100m and 200m titles for Moyle Park College with respective times 11.03 and 21.96, and Sean Aigboboh, representing High School won the Senior boys 100m title with a time of 10.92.

In the senior 1500m, Cormac Dixon recorded a time of 3:56.83 to win silver for HFCS Rathcoole, while Franklin Onuluzumba won silver in the Inter high jump with a clearance of 1.80m.

Leonard Deering (Catholic University School) won the Minor boys 800m title, while Marcus Mitchell jumped 5.90m to win the U16 long jump for HFCS Rathcoole.

There will be lots to look forward to at the All-Ireland Schools Championships scheduled to take place in Tullamore on the 31st of May and the 1st of June.

Elsewhere, at the AAI May Open in Santry on Sunday, Israel Olatunde recorded excellent times of 10:32 and 10:42 in his 100m sprint contests, as did Joseph Ojewumi in his with 10:52 and 10:64.

Dubem Amah produced two solid efforts with times of 10:86 and 10:95, and Simon Essuman recorded 10:98 in his contest, while Sean O’Donnell recorded a time of 10:87, and a personal best time of 22:18 in his 200m contest.

The previous day at the Irish Runner 5K in the Phoenix Park Kahumburuka Tuahuku recorded a time of 00:16.17 when finishing 44th in the field of almost 1700 runners, and was followed home by David O’Callaghan (00:17.09), Gareth O’Keeffe (00:18.15) and Adam Lawlor (00:20.11).
