Letter of apology brings an end to matter for Fr Ben

FR BEN Moran has received a letter of apology following allegations made against him recently.
As reported by The Echo in last week’s edition, Fr Ben Moran of St Aengus’ Church in Tymon North, Tallaght, found himself at the centre of a rumour which was spread on social media falsely accusing him of holding a gathering to which the Gardai were called over the Easter weekend.
Fr Ben Moran received a letter of apology and a donation was made to the church
Fr Ben told The Echo that he subsequently received the letter of apology, which stated that the rumour was just a joke between two people that went too far. A donation to the church was also made on behalf of the person who wrote the letter to Fr Ben.
Fr Ben said that the letter helps to bring a little bit of “conclusion” to the matter.
“When you sort of see that- it’s what I suspected all along that it was a prank that went astray.
“Hopefully it helped people learn a lesson I suppose.”
Fr Ben said that he accepts the apology on the account that we all have learned some valuable lessons.
“I think the person learned a lesson too, otherwise they wouldn’t have sent the letter.
“I want to thank family, friends, parishioners and all who came to my support in the wider Tallaght area and further afield. I was humbled by the quantity and quality of postings on the “Old Neighbourhood of Tallaght” webpage,” Fr Ben concluded.
Since the false allegations against him were circulated, messages of kind words have been posted online from members of the Tallaght community for Fr Ben, calling him a “lovely kind man” and an “amazing priest”.
Fr Ben reiterated the take home message from the incident, which is people should be mindful about what they post online and people should “step back and think about it”.
