Litter wardens regularly patrol Hazel Hill to combat dumping
LITTER wardens regularly patrol the grounds outside the Hazel Hill halting site in Killinarden in a bid to combat illegal dumping, according to South Dublin County Council.
The issue was raised by local Sinn Féin councillor Dermot Richardson at a recent Tallaght Area Committee meeting, as he said it had become “a bad spot for dumping over the last year”.
Cllr Richardson asked the council to consider installing CCTV at the entrance to the halting site to prevent dumping at the area outside the grounds of the Traveller units at the halting site.
In response, the council outlined various pieces of legislation in relation to the installation of CCTV for detecting and investigating instances of illegal dumping.
While the local authority didn’t directly answer Cllr Richardson’s request for CCTV at the site, it did provide information on current anti-illegal dumping measures at the site.
“This area is patrolled regularly by the council’s litter wardens and all incidents reported or detected are investigated,” it stated.
“Increasingly it is found that no information relating to polluters is contained within the dumped material, with personal information having been dumped or shredded.
“Members of the public are encouraged to work with the council to identify culprits who engage in illegal dumping and report any incidents observed.”
