A GROUP of Old Bawn residents have been going from kerb to kerb cutting back the grass verges all around Aylesbury and on the Firhouse Road during the lockdown.

A core team of five volunteers in the ‘Living on the Edge’ roadcrew, called Terry, Pat, Bobby, Joey and Gerry, have led the charge for the work, though there are regularly up to 20 people, including the core team, who have decided to muck in and help out in their local community by cutting the verges.

Fiona Osbourne, an Old Bawn resident who contacted The Echo to highlight the team’s work, said: “They’re doing a fantastic job, and just seeing the work that they’ve done makes everybody enjoy their evening walk more.

“It’s really brought the community together. It makes the place look amazing, and it’s a great reflection of the area.”

She added: “They are out there from 9am until about 9pm most nights and the difference it has made is unbelievable.

“They’re doing a Trojan job, and the estate looks great – really well-kept and clean.”

As reported in The Echo last week, a group of residents in De Selby got together to clean up the grass verges in the estate – showing that even while we all have to maintain social distancing, communities are still banding together and there is still strong community spirit in South Dublin County.
