Local Elections: Lord Mayor Daithí de Róiste loses seat

LORD Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste lost his seat in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh, as two first-time candidates were elected to the five-seater.

Former Olympic boxer Philip Sutcliffe, of Independent Ireland, won the final seat, edging out de Róiste (FF), who has been a city councillor since 2014 and is Lord Mayor of Dublin until the end of June.

Another first-time candidate Ray Cunningham, from the Green Party, won a seat, while Right to Change councillor Sophie Nicoullaud lost the seat she won in 2019 as a Green Party member.

Cllr Daithí Doolan, Sinn Féin, who was also a party candidate for Europe in Dublin, topped the poll in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh once again. Doolan has topped the poll here in 2014, 2019 and 2024.

Cllr Vincent Jackson (Independent) and Cllr Hazel de Nortúin (People Before Profit) were elected and retain their seats in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh.
