Local sports clubs receive more than €1.5m in funding

SPORTS clubs across South Dublin County have been handed a massive funding boost of around €1.55million after Sport Capital Grants were awarded by the government. 

On Friday, the Department for Transport, Tourism and Sport announced that €37m has been allocated nationally to 994 different projects across 37 different sports.

On a local level, Dublin South West was allocated €783,257 with Dublin Mid-West allocated €770,624 for local capital projects.

In Dublin South West, it was announced on Friday that 11 sports clubs would benefit after applying for project grants through the government.

Knocklyon Community School was awarded the largest amount, €150,000, in the Dublin South West constituency for the construction of dressing rooms while Tallaght Community School was close behind with grant funding of €125,823.

Glenanne Hockey Club (€26,023), 168th Scouting Ireland – St Aengus Tymon North (€10k), Killinarden Community Council Youth Project (€13,815), Greenhills’ Bowling Clubhouse (€12,205), Killinarden Park (€101,979), Dodder Valley Park (€118,790), St Mary’s College RFC (€80,167), Templeogue Tennis Club (€53,171) and CLG Naomh Jude and Templeogue United Senior FC (€91,284) will all also receive funding for their respective projects.

It was also revealed that 12 sports clubs in Dublin Mid-West are set to receive funding, with golf taking centre stage. 

Lucan Golf Club is set to receive €68,910 for ‘new land development – future proofing’ while Slade Valley Golf Club has been allocated €55,808 for ‘drainage/improvement works’.

Lucan Pitch and Putt Club will be able to invest €16,079 in security fencing and hedge trimming while Beech Park Golf Club will benefit from €115,168 for upgrades and machinery replacement.

Also receiving funding for their respective projects are St Finian’s GAA (€54,872), St Francis FC (€52,982), Commercials Hurling Club (€92,518), Coláiste Chillian (€127,610), Pitch 13 Griffeen Valley Park (€78,161), Lucan Athletic Track (€37,269), Clondalkin Cricket Club (€21,798) and Peamount United (€49,449).
