Looking Deadly – Hilarious play coming to Civic Theatre

Written and performed by Niamh McGrath and Keith Singleton and directed by Amy Conroy, ‘Looking Deadly’ is the story of two rival funeral directors fighting it out for the business of burying Foystown’s local legend Big Tom McCarthy.
One of the funeral directors is rooted in tradition, the other is rooted in greed.
The play is set over the course of a three-day wake and features many of the characters you would find at a funeral – from people interested in the will, to people more interested in the widow.
Although very funny, the play has a big heart and you would no doubt find yourself taking sides.
For writer Keith Singleton from Belgard in Tallaght, it will be his first time to perform in the Civic Theatre and he is looking forward to the show.
“I have been to the Civic many times watching shows, but for me it will be my first time in my 16 years performing to go on stage there, so I’m really looking forward to coming back to my home town,” Keith told The Echo.
“The show has gone very well for us but this is the first performance of our tour and you always have a few nerves, but I’m looking forward to it.
“It’s going to be very exciting and I can’t wait to get on the stage in The Civic,” he added.

‘Looking Deadly’ was written and first performed at the Dublin Fringe Festival 2016 as part of the Show in a Bag initiative run by Fishamble: The New Play Company and the Irish Theatre Institute. Since then, it has toured extensively across the island of Ireland to full houses and standing ovations.
Having sold out around Ireland, Foystown’s two rival funeral directors are back with the rollercoaster that is the battle for the funeral of local legend, Big Tom McCarthy.
‘Looking Deadly’ will make you laugh and cry, just like any decent funeral should.
The show runs in the Civic Theatre from September 4 to September 8.
