Lucan lap it up in Dublin C’ship

LUCAN Harriers were not short of medals by the close of proceedings in last weekend’s Dublin Indoor Championships in Abbotstown.

Among the club’s most prolific podium finishers were Rachel Jez, Saoirse Fitzger-ald, Hannah Moriarty, Kate O’Connell and Dara Donoghue.

The former recorded third place finishes in the Under 12 Girls Shot Putt, 600m and Long Jump while Fitzgerald took gold in the Under 14 Girls Long Jump and 800m and silver in the Shot Putt and 60m.

Jez’s performance in the Shot completed a clean sweep for Lucan in that division as Ella McGrath (also second in the 60m) won out with Muireann Ni Bhuachalla (third in the High Jump) runner-up.

Moriarty made it gold in the Girls Under 16 High Jump and silver in both the Long Jump and 60m Hurdles before O’Connell and Donoghue each emerged with a brace of gold.

The former topped the podium in both the Under 17 Girls 60m and 200m while Donoghue did likewise in the Under 17 Boys 800m and 1500m.

The Under 12 Boys class saw Aaron Donoghue emerge second from the 600m with Nathan Dooley following suit in the Shot, just as Eva Collins did in the Under 13 Girls equivalent.

Lucan boasted the second and third finishers in the Under 13 Boys 600m with David Coakley runner-up and Davis Quinn taking bronze.

In the Under 14 Boys Shot Putt, Cian Gavin and Killian O’Connor were second and third respectively while Maggie Jez came home second in the Under 15 Girls 800m.

There were third place finishes for Liam Fitzgerald and Eoghan O’Connor in the Under 15 Boys 800m and Long Jump respectively before Aoife Coffey clinched bronze in the Under 19 Girls 1500m, Doireann Ni Fhiaich silver in the Under 9 Girls 60m and Millie Hughes silver in the Under 16 1500m.
