Lucan U16s make it a double

IT WAS a camogie double for Lucan Sarsfields last weekend as both their Under 16 Division One and Three sides captured their respective league titles.

The former came up against a Kilmacud outfit who, like themselves, had remained unbeaten in the league up until this point.

Predictions of a nailbiting match-up were coming to pass as Lucan headed in at the break just a solitary point to the good and an even tighter second half followed.

Indeed the two sides were deadlocked through this period meaning Lucan edged it by the narrowest of margins 5-7 to 4-9.

“Full credit to both teams on an absolutely fantastic game of camogie where the teamwork on both sides was superb,” said Lucan manager John O’Connell.

“Our girls were once again outstanding today in every respect.”

“It’s another great result for this group of players, who in a tight game were worthy winners on the day.

“This was a game where people would pay good money to see the skills on display.

“This is a really great Kilmacud Crokes team and, as they are last year’s league champions, nothing less than our best would be good enough on the day” he stressed.

Meanwhile two early second half goals propelled Lucan to a 7-9 to 4-5 victory over St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh in the Division Three Final.

It was the Navan Road side who were a point up at the recess, but Lucan’s early second-half brace propelled them in front and they remained there with the aid of a further four goals by the final whistle.
