Lucan United men walking on Ayr’ in Metropolitan Cup

LUCAN United secured their place in the third round of the LSL’s Metropolitan Cup following a 5-0 demolition of Ayrfield on Sunday.

Playing two divisions higher than their opponents, Lucan were always favourites heading into this game, although for the opening half hour it would have been somewhat difficult to determine that.

Indeed Ayrfield turned in a gritty performance, but in the closing 15 minutes of the first half, the game exploded when Lucan's Marco Chundey whipped in a dangerous ball into the box to which Aji Sule reacted quickest, racing on to the delivery and blasting the ball into the left hand corner.

Two minutes later Gareth Mathews went close to doubling his side’s lead when he shot from outside the box, but his effort drifted fractionally wide of the top right corner.

In the dying minutes of the half, Sule struck low and hard, but again the ball travelled the wrong side of the upright and Lucan had to be content with just the one-goal lead at the break.

Yet the second half was all about Lucan as they scored another three goals and their efforts forced a fifth by way of an OG in the dying seconds of the game.

Just 10 minutes into the second half, Marco Chundey rattled the net with a fine strike before Sule hit his second and Lucan’s third.

With the points effectively in the bag, Lucan continued to press and substitute Tayem Mercer saw his excellent effort pushed on to the crossbar.

Minutes later he was involved in his side’s fourth, taking possession on the right side of the box, before firing low and hard into the path of Andri Torynai who had come charging in on the left to shoot to the target.

Lucan were awarded a late corner kick and Jack Colgan’s delivery in was deflected home to make it 5-0.
