Man (50s) arrested after suspect device discovered at Tallaght house
A man in his 50s is in Garda custody after a suspect device was discovered at a house in a Tallaght estate this morning.
Armed Gardai and members of the Defence Forces were at the house in the Avonbeg area for a period of time, while the EOD team were also present.
A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene and was brought to Tallaght Garda Station where he is detained under Section 30 of the Offence Against the State Act 1939.
In a statement a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai have arrested a man in his 50s in Tallaght following the discovery of a suspect device.
“As part of a Gardai investigation a search was carried out at house in Dominics Terrace, Tallaght this morning 24th August 2017 at approximately 8am.
“During the search the device was discovered and has since been removed by the Army EOD team for analysis.”
This morning’s incident follows a shooting which took place in Avonbeg on Saturday morning.
Several shots were fired at an occupied house, but there were no injuries reported.
It is not known at this time if both incidents are connected.
