Man arrested after cannabis worth an estimated €24k seized in Lucan

HERBAL cannabis with an estimated street value of €24,000 was seized in Lucan yesterday as part of ongoing investigations targeting drug importations in the West Dublin area.

A joint intelligence led operation was conducted yesterday morning (August 14) by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Revenue’s Customs Service from the Dublin Region and the Drugs Unit from Ronanstown in Clondalkin.

According to a Garda statement this afternoon: “Gardai entered a residence in Lucan County Dublin on foot of a search warrant assisted by Customs units.

“During the search a package was seized by Customs, which contained approximately 1 and a 1/4 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €24,000 euro (subject to analysis). 

“A 25-year-old Irish male was arrested at the scene, as part of the operation by gardai. 

“He was detained at Ronanstown Garda Station under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended.

“He has since been released for a file to be submitted to the DPP.”

According to gardai, investigations are continuing.
