Man has to pay €500 to charity to avoid a conviction
A MAN who was caught with a stolen wacker plate will have to pay €500 to charity to avoid a conviction.
Blanchardstown District Court heard that a wacker plate is used to level surfaces.
Daniel Gallagher, aged 35, with an address at Meenekiller, Ardara, County Donegal, pleaded guilty to handling stolen property: a wacker plate at Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, on December 9, 2017.
Garda Barry O’Shea told Judge David McHugh that he arrested Gallagher on December 9 last on Kylemore Road for possession of stolen property.
Judge McHugh asked what a wacker plate was. Garda O’Shea said it was used for levelling surfaces. He said the machine was worth €500.
Garda O’Shea said Gallagher had no previous convictions.
He agreed with Gallagher’s counsel that there had been no attempt to mislead the gardai.
The Counsel said his client was a self-employed carpenter.
Judge McHugh said he would be prepared to apply the Probation Act if Gallagher paid €500 to the Blanchardstown Hospice.
He remanded Gallagher on continuing bail to a date in March for payment of the donation.
