Judge David McHugh fined him €150.

Bute, aged 39, with an address at Castlegate Row, Adamstown, admitted public intoxication and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour on December 30 last year.

Blanchardstown District Court heard gardai went to Castlegate Row at 2.25am following a call that there was an intoxicated male. When they arrived, they saw Bute on the road, highly intoxicated.

He became verbally abusive to the gardai and was arrested for his own safety and brought to Lucan Garda Station.

Bute was a Lithuanian father-of-two who had been living in Ireland for 16 years, his lawyer said.

Judge McHugh asked if the accused had been “letting off steam”.

Bute was going through a “nasty enough separation” and had a disagreement with his current girlfriend. There was also alcohol taken on the night, his lawyer said.

Judge McHugh fined Bute €150.

“He seems to hit the drink from time to time,” the judge said.
