Man jailed for nine years for the manslaughter of his friend
A 28-YEAR-OLD Tallaght man has been jailed for nine years after being convicted of the manslaughter of his friend, Ademola Giwa, in Mac Uiliam two years ago.
John Titiloye, from Mac Uilliam Crescent in Tallaght, was convicted of the manslaughter of his friend Ademola Giwa this week.
Mr Giwa was fatally stabbed by Titiloye on August 10, 2021, and the court heard the incident stemmed from Titiloye being owed €100 by another man, Samson Fayemi.
The day before Mr Giwa was fatally stabbed, Titiloye and a group of men confronted Mr Fayemi outside his home in Marlfield, Kiltipper, and took his scooter and keys.
The following day, he and Mr Giwa, who lived in Mac Uiliam Parade, called to Titiloye’s house at Mac Uilliam Crescent, where a row broke out and Titiloye’s father Anthony became involved.
Titiloye produced a knife and stabbed Mr Giwa in the neck. He later died from his injuries in Tallaght University Hospital.
Titiloye was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter, after a jury heard he had tried to retreat from the melee but returned with a knife as his father was being attacked.
On Monday, July 24, Mr Justice Paul McDermott sentenced Titiloye to ten years in prison with the final year suspended, and he offered his condolences to the family of Mr Giwa.
