Marathon man doubles his run for charity
By Maurice Garvey
MARATHON man Mark Conlon will take to the road again for another session of endurance – this time running two marathons in one day to raise funds for the Society of St Vincent De Paul.
Bawnogue resident Mark is preparing for the task on the day of the Dublin City Marathon – October 27 – running a marathon at 12.30am from Clontarf to Howth, and then another 26 miles in the official race later that day.
Two marathons in one day will benefit St Vincent De Paul
“The night one is harder, your body is out of kilter, there is no crew, no water stations and no food,” said Mark.
“I will stash some water beforehand in a ditch every three or four miles.”
An experienced long-distance runner, Mark has taken part in many charity races, recently completing 10 marathons in 10 days to raise €8,000 for the Inner City Helping Homeless charity.
Last year Conlon completed 33 marathons in 33 days for the Peter McVerry Trust but “wasn’t happy with only raising €3,000” and wanted to do more this year.
“I’m looking for businesses to sponsor me in any way, even if it is vouchers,” said Mark.
“I have got support from Discount Supplies in Clondalkin and Asics Kildare outlet.”
