Marks Celtic reach the Albert Walsh Cup final
MARKS Celtic have qualified for the Albert Walsh Cup final which takes place this evening (Thursday).
The Springfield side secured their place in the final when they overcame the challenge of Ratoath 3-2 after extra time in Butler Park last week.
A goal with the last kick of the game in extra time from Loba Allarpe proved the winner and kick start wild celebrations among the Marks support.
A long kick out from Keeper Ola Allarpe to his brother Loba who broke through the defence and let fly a cracking effort to the back of the net. It was a superb win for Marks who came from 1-0 down at the break in normal time with Callum Bennett beating his man and the off-side trap to slot past the Ratoath keeper.
Marks spurred on by a big home support were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of normal time but this was saved and extra time had to be played.
And it was Marks who came out winners as they pushed forward with fine displays from Darrell Powell at centre half, Stephen Ward, Chris Beatty and Jay Daly.
Marks, who last won the competition four years ago, will play the final in Ballyfermot.
On the league front, Marks have finished fifth after a great run since Christmas where they had occupied second from bottom at that stage of the competition.
But they will be hoping for more smiles when they play Rush side St Ita’s in the decider.
The team is managed by Keith and Karl Maher who are sons of Marks Celtic stalwart Pat who sadly passed away during the year.
