McAllister believes Rovers can see off league leaders

SHAMROCK Rovers midfielder David McAllister insists the Hoops have the arsenal needed to send Dundalk home from Tallaght Stadium empty-handed tonight.

A lack of consistency continues to plague Stephen Bradley’s side, but McAllister believes they have the means to take full points in their much-anticipated clash with the current Airtricity League leaders who have won their last five games in the Premier.

Rovers Players 31

“If we can click, there’s no team in the league that can beat us, but Dundalk is going to be a tough match,” said McAllister. “They’ve got some great players like Pat Hoban.

“But then you look at some of the players we have. I mean Dan Carr has been a revelation for us this season and Graham Burke, just look at what he’s done.

“We’ve shown in the bigger matches that we can win. Even Dundalk away when we lost 2-1, we could have won that match.

“We haven’t been a million miles off in these games, but obviously the results don’t show that.

Consistency

“We need to nail down that consistency if we want to be up there challenging.

“It’s so frustrating that we can go and beat the likes of the champions Cork, and beat them quite comfortably, and then get turned over by Pat’s,” he told The Echo.

Rovers have managed just one point from their two league meetings with Dundalk so far this seasons and it has been this lack of productivity that has left the Hoops sixth in the table, 19 points of the pace-setters.

While the top two Dundalk and Cork look to be well out of reach as far as Rovers are concerned, McAllister remains positive.

“That’s not something that we’ve really talked about. I can’t see Dundalk and Cork losing too many games to be honest, but, for us, we’ve just got to try and go on a run.

“You never know what can happen in football. We’ll never stop believing,” he said.
