McCabe at the forefront as Gunners win League Cup
KATIE McCabe was at the forefront of the action as Arsenal came from behind to end their four-year trophy drought with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the Continental Tyres League Cup.
There was a Women’s League Cup record 19,010 people in attendance at Selhurst Park to watch Arsenal lift the title, their first piece of silverware since winning the 2019/19 Women’s Super Cup.
It seemed as though it was going to be a long day at the office for the Gunners after Sam Kerr’s bullet header crashed off the underside of the crossbar and across the line inside two minutes.
Arsenal drew level after 16-minutes when Frida Maanum picked up the ball in midfield and drove at the opposition box before crossing to Stina Blackstenius, who slotted it home.
Just a few minutes later and the Gunners had the advantage after Kilnamanagh native McCabe was brought down inside the box by Sophie Ingle.
Arsenal captain Kim Little made no mistake from 12-yards, sending Chelsea netminder Ann-Katrin Berger the wrong way.

Republic of Ireland skipper, McCabe, was dealt an injury scare after colliding with Berger, with her eventually being substituted after 57-minutes.
The break in play to deal with the injury provided a window of opportunity for both sides, with Niamh Charles’ own goal extending Arsenal’s lead and pushing them on to the win.
