Medical report ‘not a pretty sight’ says judge

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge McHugh that the DPP had directed summary disposal in the case.

She produced a medical report on Ms Kennedy’s injuries.

Judge McHugh asked what was alleged. Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that at 10pm on June 28, 2018, gardai responded to a call that a woman was in distress outside Clondalkin Garda Station.

She said it will be alleged that Ms Kennedy had a black eye and a swollen left cheek. Sgt Callaghan said Ms Kennedy was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where she received treatment.

Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that earlier that evening, Evans pulled Ms Kennedy by the hair and dragged her to the ground.

She said it will be alleged that Evans punched Ms Kennedy in the face and kicked her in the ribs before spitting on her.

She said it will be alleged that Larrigan who was Ms Kennedy’s’ ex-partner also punched her before Ms Kennedy “crawled back into the house”.

Judge McHugh said he had read the medical report.

He said: “It is not a pretty sight. It is at the the upper end of the scale.”

He accepted jurisdiction.

Evans, aged 53, with an address at Brookview Green, Tallaght, and Larrigan, aged 35, with an address at Woodavens, Clondalkin, are charged with assaulting Ms Kennedy causing her harm at the same address at Woodavens on the above date.

Evans and Larrigan were represented by their counsel, Jennifer Jackson Bl.

Judge McHugh remanded both defendants on continuing bail to November 21 next for a plea or a date for hearing.
