Memories of teenager Seán will be ‘cherished forever’

TEENAGER Seán Murphy has been remembered as a great family man and somebody who could light up the room with his “smile and ronnie” following his tragic death.

Seán Murphy was seriously injured after the electric bike he was riding collided with a pillar in Mac Uilliam estate, Tallaght, on Thursday, June 8.

After being transported to Tallaght University Hospital, Seán was pronounced dead, and he was laid to rest on Wednesday following a funeral mass in St Aidan’s Church.

Mourners filled the church in Brookfield to pay their respects to a young man taken too soon.

Seán’s partner of four years, Isobel, spoke on behalf of the family and thanked everyone for the condolences and support since the teenager’s death.

Isobel started with a reading of the poem ‘Sunflower’ by Charlotte Freeman, saying “thank you for being our sunflower Seán”.

Working in McDonald’s was a big factor in Seán’s life, “he would show up at least an hour late to his shifts, but he showed up nonetheless” to see his friends.

He was often seen getting sunburnt on the fry-station or running around the kitchen making a mess.

There was a large group of workers from McDonalds also in attendance, who were there to remember their colleague that they had worked alongside for two years.

Friendship was a key theme throughout the funeral mass, with the sitting room at home being relished as a “sentimental” place for Seán and his group of close friends.

“He would always bring the boys back, where they would spend hours talking about everything but nothing at the same time,” Isobel told the packed St Aidan’s church.

“They would leave with so many memories every time they left that sitting room… as well as a puff of smoke.”

One of the fondest memories of Seán was his excellent craftmanship in making a cup of tea, he had a little tea making station and always left the tea bag in “for exactly two minutes”.

“Seán really wanted to be a dad but unfortunately never got to be one, but Seán was always there to mind his friend Josh when he needed to go to the baby scans because Seán remembered the days better himself,” Isobel said with a chuckle.

The memories of Seán and his friend group will be “cherished forever”.

Isobel also recalled the times her and Seán would sit down and look at the stars, or the time they slow danced in the kitchen “as if we were in our late 40s” or “sit-up all night talking about Seán’s hopes for the future”, saying she loved him “more than words could say”.

Seán’s “smile and ronnie” would light up the room, and he was a very passionate big brother to Liam.

Liam and Seán would sit down playing Xbox together, with Isobel joking about how Liam would never get a turn.

Seán was remembered as somebody who, like his aunt Chloe, was fond of the mirror with Fr Martin Hughes saying, “I’m sure Seán was equally gorgeous”.

The three gifts brought up to the alter in memory of Seán were his Xbox games console, mixed martial arts gloves and a corsage from the Debs.

Following the funeral mass, Seán was buried in Newlands Cross Cemetery.

Predeceased by his beloved grandad Michael and uncle Michael, Seán is survived by his mother Margaret, brother Liam, grandparents Jean, Brendan and Aisley, aunties Chloe and Barbara, uncles Jack and Stephen, girlfriend Isobel, Margaret’s partner Craig, extended family and wide circle of friends.
