Miele handed two-year ban from football
FORMER St Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers player, Brandon Miele has been issued with a two-year ban after Sport Ireland and the FAI announced that he had violated Irish Anti-Doping rules.
The 25-year-old midfielder was sanctioned after failing, without ‘compelling justification’, to provide a sample after notification of a test following a match back in April.

In his attempt to explain his action, Miele insisted that he had to leave the area of testing to be with his daughter who had fallen and hit her head.
He stressed that he had tried everything to provide a sample, but was in “such a state of agitation and confusion” as a result of his daughter’s health, that he felt compelled to leave to be with her.
The Tallaght man also insisted “I was not aware at the time of the consequences of leaving at this juncture, but felt my first obligation was to my family.”
A statement issued by St Pat’s read “It is with regret that St Patrick’s Athletic FC have this afternoon learned of the outcome of Sport Ireland’s investigation of Brandon Miele.
“All at St Patrick’s Athletic were most optimistic when signing Brandon, a very talented footballer.
“Brandon did not train with the club since the beginning of May and tendered his resignation on June 6th, 2019 which was accepted.”
Miele’s ban commenced on September 9, meaning the former PFAI Young Player of the Year will not be eligible to play again until September 2021.
