More than €186m approved for ‘urban regeneration’ projects in South Dublin County

MORE than €186 million in funding has been approved for ‘urban regeneration and development’ projects in South Dublin County.
The Government today announced a €430m funding package for eight Dublin regeneration projects under its Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), with the largest allocation of €176.6m approved for the new town of Clonburris.

According to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) is “one of the most strategically important land banks in the State”, that will act as a “catalyst” for wider regeneration and development.
The funding approved is for supplementary strategic infrastructure and will include, new link roads, utility corridors, bridges, pumping stations, public parks regional attenuation ponds and community centres.
Clonburris will house around 21,000 people when complete.
As part of today’s announcement, €9.7m has also been delivered for the Adamstown SDZ.
This strategic infrastructure funding will facilitate the development of the Adamstown town centre aspect of the SDZ lands and “the continued roll-out of suitably located and scaled housing”.
The strategic town centre infrastructure includes, Central Boulevard Park, construction of a civic/library building fronting onto the district/town centre plaza/square.
Today’s announcement is the second bout of funding under the URDF for South Dublin County Council, with €32m approved in ‘Call 1’.
