Motion passed to take action with continuous litter problem
A MOTION has been moved by the council to take action in addressing the “continuous litter problem” outside Four Star Pizza in Clondalkin Village.
At the recent area committee meeting of Clondalkin, Cllr Trevor Gilligan raised a motion for the committee to take steps in addressing the “litter problems outside Four Star Pizza”.
Located on the Main Street in Clondalkin Village, issues have cropped up over the last few months in relation to how Four Star Pizza amasses its waste on the path prior to it being collected.
In raising the motion, Cllr Gilligan (FF) said that the persistent issue has been flagged with him by members of the public and Clondalkin Tidy Towns.
Cllr Gilligan detailed that because their bin is located on the footpath, the litter from it kicks up in the wind regularly and also pondered whether or not Four Star Pizza had enough bin space
In response, South Dublin County Council reported that a fine was issued to the pizza business on January 31, 2022 for an alleged offence on January 2.
“The Litter Warden continues to monitor this location in line with routine patrols,” the council said.
“The Litter Warden is also monitoring and liaising, when necessary, with our Waste Enforcement team on the presentation of waste for this business as with all other businesses.”
In January, Cllr Eoin Ó Broin raised a question about the “egregious way in which the business leaves litter outside their premises” and that it “had little regard for their impact on the village”.
At that time, Four Star told The Echo that an alleged operational error led to the business amassing an abnormal amount of rubbish on the pathway in front of the store.
The store claimed that the way it stockpiled the rubbish at the store in early January is not standard practice, with the rubbish typically stored elsewhere on the premises.
However, following the issue being raised again at the area committee meeting in March, the motion calling for action to be taken to address the litter was passed by present councillors.
