GARDAI are investigating a hit and run in Ballyfermot, after a child was lucky to escape serious injury.

An 11-year-old boy was crossing Kylemore Road, at the island junction near the Assumption Church/St Gabriel’s Primary School roundabout, when a motorist collided into him, and drove off.

Mercifully, the schoolboy Jayden only suffered minor cuts and bruises, according to his mother Caroline Marsh.

Speaking to The Echo, Caroline said: “He is okay now but he got an awful fright. Luckily just escaped with bruises and grazes to his leg, but his bike is destroyed. We are obviously thankful it wasn’t worse.”

She is appealing for anyone with information or camera footage, to contact gardai.

The incident occurred at approximately 5pm, on Tuesday, February 18.

“He was crossing at the little island and the man gave him the go-ahead to cross,” said Caroline, who lives around the corner from the junction.

“But as my son got to the middle of the road, the guy kept driving and didn’t slow down or stop. It is absolutely sickening that someone could knock a child over and keep driving. We are very fortunate that all he got were bruises.”

A witness at the scene reported the car as an 07 Toyota.

A Ballyfermot garda spokesperson confirmed to The Echo that the collision was reported and “is under investigation.”

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage, is encouraged to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station at 666 7200.
