GARDAI have launched a murder investigation into the death of a young man found in a park in Tallaght this morning.
The young man has this evening been officially named by Gardai as Adam Muldoon, a 23-year-old who was known to sleep rough in the area - and whose death has left the community "devastated".
Adam Muldoon (23)
Adam’s body was discovered this morning (June 23) shortly after 6.30am in Jobstown Park, with the young man pronounced dead at the scene.
His remains were removed to the morgue at Whitehall where a post-mortem was carried out by the assistant State Pathologist Dr Bolster.
Garda Technical Bureau at the scene this morning
According to a Garda statement this evening: “Results of the post-mortem have now been furnished to Gardaí and a murder investigation has commenced.
“Details of the post-mortem are not being released for operational reasons.”
The scene of the incident remains sealed off this evening, with searches of the area continuing.
An incident room has also been established at Tallaght Garda Station.
Speaking outside Tallaght Garda Station earlier, Superintendent Ian Lackey said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in Jobstown Park…between 11pm last night and 6.30am this morning to contact us at the incident room in Tallaght Garda Station.
Gardai continued to examine the area this evening
“We are also appealing to motorists who travelled along Cheeverstown Road between those times and may have dash cam footage to come forward.”
Devastated
Speaking with The Echo, Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Richardson said that the community is in shock over Adam’s death.
“Adam was well known around the area and a lot of people looked out for him”, Cllr Richardson said.
“The community is devastated over what has happened, people are in shock and are trying to help Adam’s family in any way they can.
“It’s so important that if anyone has any information that can help with the investigation that they contact gardai.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Tallaght Garda Station on 6666000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
