Murphy’s goalkeeping heroics help Belgard to Division One Shield
A SUPERB save in a penalty shootout from Belgard Athletic’s Dan Murphy, secured the Division 1 Shield for his club after a 0-0 draw with Harding FC reports John Mooney.
Nothing between these two with chances falling to both sides, but both failing to take advantage of anything that came their way.
Belgard had won the league unbeaten and were determined to add the last piece of silverware of the season on offer to their league title, but they found Harding a very tough nut to crack.
Then again that’s usually the case when it comes down to one game, nobody wants to lose and teams tighten up but despite that this was a decent game.
I’m not saying there was an abundance of chances, but the skill level was high enough in testing conditions.
However, it was Belgard who came out on top when it mattered.
Elsewhere, Arthur Griffith Park FC (AGP) slipped to defeat in the Premier Division Shield showpiece despite the heroics of their netminder Jay Behan, who made an excellent penalty save in normal time.
Despite Chris Dunne’s effort finding the net and Behan’s excellence down the other end, AGP succumbed to Rialto on a scoreline of 1-2 after Anthony Fermoyle and Glen Carrol’s goals.
