Music Generation take Fleadh Cheoil 2016 by storm
By Alex Dunne
TWENTY-FOUR young Irish musicians from the South Dublin area performed at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016 in Ennis last week.
The group is composed of child musicians aged 8-12 from Tallaght, Saggart, Brittas, and Rathcoole, performing under the banner of Music Generation South Dublin.
This was be the biggest concert the band had performed in since it was formed last June.
The Fleadh is known as one of the biggest and most prominent festivals celebrating Irish music and traditional culture, and finished today after a eight days of music and celebration.
The Fleadh invites the best Irish and international talent to the festival every year, so it is a massive achievement for the Music Generation group to have been chosen to take part this year.
Music Generation, a programme set up in association with The Ireland Funds and rock band U2, is a national music education programme with individual branches in 12 counties.
Along with their South Dublin group they had three other divisions taking part: Music Generation Clare, Mayo, and Sligo.
