National Half Marathon Championship success for Tallaght athletes

A NUMBER of Tallaght athletes secured titles in the National Half Marathon Championships which was incorporated in the Rock ‘n Roll Dublin Half Marathon on Sunday.

Tomas Fitzpatrick produced another great performance to finish fifth overall and claim the National Over 35 title with a time of 1.09.55 while, in the Over 55 category, there was a double for the club as Niall Coppinger and Anna King secured the Men’s and Women’s titles recording times of 1.25.16 and 1.44.46 respectively.

Gary Clarke took bronze in the Over 65 category in 1.50.55 and Eddie Coyle topped the podium in the Over 70 division with a very good time of 1.52.11.

The race also included the Rock ‘n Roll 10k with the runners splitting from the half marathon field on Chapelizod Road with Tallaght’s Lorraine Warburton finishing in a time of 50.27 ahead of clubmates Liz Pepper 52.44 and Grainne Byrne recording a time of 1.04.10.

Elsewhere, Laura Mc Donnell recorded another good road race win when taking the top prize in the recent Duleek & District 10k, clocking 39.44.

This followed a second place finish at the Dublin Graded Meet T&F event in Santry and she followed that up with another runner-up finish in the Father Murphy AC 5K in Athboy in 17.59.

Meanwhile in the recent graded meet, Sarah Doyle finished third in her Grade B1 400m where she clocked 64.47 and Anita Carruth took fifth with a time of 67.40 in her Grade C1 400m contest.

On another note, Tallaght will be looking forward to putting on a bold display when the men’s track and field team contest the National League Final in Tullamore this Sunday.
