Trish Furlong, staff member at NCBI Galtymore Road, said residents have expressed great disappointment at the closure.

“A lot of people are going mad about it,” she said.

“It is a great place for people to come in for a chat, a cup of tea and a bargain. A lot of elderly residents come in for a potter around while they are waiting for a bus. There is a bus stop directly outside.

“A few tears have been shed this week.”

A number of residents expressed their disappointment online.

Ms Furlong said staff in Galtymore Road will most likely migrate to other roles at NCBI shops in Dublin, along with any stock that has not been sold by Friday.
