Neglected and starving goat found wandering in Ballyfermot

A GOAT with only one horn and a malnourished body was found in Ballyfermot this week, but thanks to actions of local lads, he has now found refuge at the My Lovely Horse (MLH) farm in Kildare.

Volunteers from the animal rescue organisation received a call on Monday, informing them of the unusual discovery.

Goat - Cherry Orchard

A resident in Cherry Orchard kept ‘Gavin’ the goat safe in his back garden until volunteers arrived.

MLH volunteer Martina Kenny said: “It is weird to have a goat wandering around a city neighbourhood, but thanks to the guys in Cherry Orchard, local lads kept it safe until we arrived.

“We have a good relationship with horse owners in the Ballyfermot and Clondalkin area.

“Poor Gavin was neglected badly. Our vet John suspects he lost one of his horns in a shed, and that he went without food for a long time. He is very malnourished, riddled in worms and fleas.

“We have given him plenty of TLC and vitamins and are hoping he will recover. There are three lovely goats at the farm, he will be happy there.”

This is not the first time a goat has been spotted in Ballyfermot, and perhaps it won’t be the last, but MLH are happy to take calls from concerned residents for any future sightings.
