THE new €700k all-weather pitch in Brickfield Park was officially opened on Monday by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr.

Dublin City Council say the floodlit, full sized pitch will be a welcome addition to the popular Drimnagh park, which also includes a playground and extensive tree planting.

Local football clubs set to benefit from the new facility include St John Bosco FC, Benbulbin United, Drimnagh Celtic, Earl Celtic, Galty Celtic, and Mourne Celtic.

A plaque on a bench dedicated to the memory of John O’Halloran of St John Bosco FC has also been installed.

Mr O’Halloran was instrumental in the campaign for the development of a full size all-weather pitch in Brickfield Park.

Unfortunately, he passed away before he could see this dream become a reality.

Mayor Carr said: “I am delighted to be here to open this new facility and congratulate all those involved in bringing it to fruition.

“I’m sure it will prove to be an invaluable asset to the teams in the area and I wish them every success in their new home.”
