New Innovation Hub in hospital will help make a real difference

A NEW Innovation Hub opened in Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) atrium this week, in the hope of encouraging and developing leading creativity and innovation in healthcare delivery.
Developed with the support of Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) volunteers, the hub provides a centrally located, permanent place in the hospital where ideas can be developed and mentoring and education provided.

It is also a place where an inventory of ideas can be maintained and progressed, with the space also acting as a health information hub for staff, patients and visitors.
AWS has provided the latest technology for the hub to support the development of innovative ideas, including Alexa-driven voice-recognition devices and Kindle devices.
Lucy Nugent, CEO of TUH, said: “We are delighted to be officially opening this Innovation Hub at TUH, and are grateful for the support of AWS and their staff volunteers in developing this.
“Leadership in research and innovation are central to delivering better care, and this will build upon our reputation to attract and retain talented people.

“I have no doubt this space will provide an opportunity for staff across the organisation to engage with the culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and enable them to contribute ideas big and small that will make a real difference to how we at TUH care for people to live better lives.”
AWS data centre employees assisted in the preparation and construction of the project.

James Moloney, Director Data Centre Operations at AWS said: “It’s our hope that this Innovation Hub can be a benefit to our local community by both providing a quiet space for hospital visitors to use, and as an innovative space where the staff of TUH can meet to create new healthcare solutions.
“It shows how working together, the hospital, AWS and its willing volunteers, the wider community and the support of staff, patients and visitors can develop the best in healthcare for people.”
