New playspace opens at Dodder Valley Park
A new playspace has officially opened at the Dodder Valley Park, Mount Carmel. This was the second of three playspaces planned for the area, with the third expected to open at Dodder Valley Cherryfield by the end of the month, reports Steven Reid.
Mayor Emma Murphy, was accompanied by Teresa Walsh, director of services, other councillors, SDCC staff, Scoil Treasa’s Student Council, and other guests to commemorate the event.
Speaking at the event Mayor Murphy said: “Play is recognized as a vital activity for healthy child development. Children also need time in nature for their physical and mental well-being.”
Outdoor recreation has been known to have several benefits for children, including: “Mental and physical well-being, developing imagination, and allowing children to assess risk and develop their coping abilities” according to a spokesperson from SDCC.
The playspace has grown quite popular amongst the community according to the Mayor, and she was quick to add that she is grateful for the support and benevolence everyone has demonstrated towards the space. The playspace joins the recently opened BMX pump track and adds to an already vibrant and beautiful riverside location.
