New signage strategy agreed

A NEW signage strategy for South Dublin County has been agreed, with signage for Tallaght discussed at an area committee meeting this week.
In October, South Dublin County Council agreed a strategy, which would include a range of new signage under the categories of town centres, villages, district centres, parks and key transport modes.

The signage will also be used to celebrate the county’s heritage.
According to the council, the purpose of Local Directional Signage (LDS) is to ‘provide people with information relating to how they can find their way to, and around, an area and what they can do while there’.
The signage system will also have a ‘consistency of style, layout and approach to maximise impact and visibility’.
At Monday’s Tallaght Area Committee meeting, a number of locations for signs were identified as possible contenders for the initial roll out of the scheme in Tallaght.
Under heritage and culture, Tallaght Heritage Trail and Dodder Greenway to Mountains were included on the list.
Tallaght Town Centre and Tallaght Village were also included for new signage alongside the district centres of Castletymon and Old Bawn.
Parks and open spaces on the list include Tymon Park, Dodder Valley Park, Sean Walsh Park, Kiltipper Park, Butler McGee Park and Killinarden Park (subject to regeneration plan).
The Luas stations have also been included under the category of transport nodes.
According to the council: “These locations are not intended to be an exhaustive list and other locations, within these categories, may be added for examination.”
Funding is available to progress a number of schemes.
In a comment to The Echo, a spokesperson for the council said: “Following agreement on the signage strategy, individual signage projects under these categories are now being discussed at each of the Area Committees, including Tallaght.
“Once a programme of signage works is agreed, the council will progress delivery of these works.”
