Knocklyon-based artist Emma Higgins is hosting an exhibition in Ballyroan Library running from September 3-29.

‘Nightsong’ is Emma’s first solo exhibition in five years and promises to be an explosion of colour with an exciting, energetic and vibrant collection of new work.

Emma has spent the last couple of years honing her style and has emerged with this body of work which crosses the boundary of art for children and art for everyone.

Quirky characters, interesting landscapes and exciting colour combinations invite you to bring a little colour and magic into your world.

“This collection of paintings was inspired by a series of drawings completed in sketchbooks over the past two years,” said Emma.

“I have made a conscious effort to always have these sketchbooks on me so spontaneous art could occur.

“I started by exploring patterns, colour and composition, experimenting with new materials and using a colour on colour approach, exploring colour, shape, form and pattern. Interspersing some characters, with just simple geometrics and line drawing, then working over it all with hand-drawn pattern and elemental brush strokes.

“My inspiration for this collection has come from my love of colour, the magic of the sky at night, and evenings spent in song with friends.”

Emma is a graduate in Textile Design at NCAD. Aside from creating art she teaches both adults’ and children’s classes and has completed collaborative art projects in a number of schools around Dublin. She has been working as a full-time artist for the past 10 years.
