‘None of this yawning’ judge tells teenager (17)

A TEENAGER who was caught with €15 worth of cannabis had his case adjourned for a probation report by Tallaght Court.

The 17-year-old, who has an address in Tallaght, pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis at a location in Tallaght on April 17, 2017.

He was accompanied by a social worker.

Garda Stephen Murray told Judge Patricia McNamara that he had been on patrol in Tallaght on the above date. He said he came across the teenager and got a strong smell of cannabis.

He said he searched the teenager under the Misuse of Drugs Act and foiund a small bag of cannabis. Garda Murray said the cannabis was worth €15.

He said the teenager had 13 previous convictions.

At Bray District Court on April 17 last, he received the Probation Act for simple possession of drugs.

At this point, Judge McNamara turned to the teenager and said: “Show a little respect for the court. None of this yawning.”

She adjourned the case for two weeks for a probation report.
