North Clondalkin choir in fine tune with over 50 members
THE North Clondalkin Community Choir is an exciting new intergenerational choir with over 50 members, reports Ryan Butler.
Professionally directed and managed, the choir began in September 2022 in response to the isolation that many experienced as a result of multiple lockdowns from COVID.
As the flagship choir for North Clondalkin, their choir is a growing force within the community.
More importantly, they provide members with access to quality music education, specialising in the art of choral music and instrumental tuition, which in turn directly supports the mental health of their members.
Choirs typically fall into one of two categories: young or adult. This choir is distinct as it consists of both adults and children, some of whom are related.
The group’s membership base has grown significantly since they started practicing in the North Clondalkin Library, so they now need a larger rehearsal venue.
With the help of Fr Hugh Kavanagh PP, Rowlagh Church has been their new practice and performance space since September 2023 for the past few months.
The choir is independent and non-denominational, even though they practice in a church.
They have established expert management structures since September to guarantee that members receive the greatest support both now and in the future.
Regardless of gender, race, creed, or political affiliation, everyone is welcome.
The group is grateful to South Dublin County Council, Tower Credit Union, Rowlagh Credit Union, Hanley’s Supervalu, and Frank Keane Volkswagen Liffey Valley for their support.
The choir’s Christmas concert will be held in Rowlagh Church on December 16, at 8pm.
Tickets can be bought through Eventbrite HERE.
To help the community get into the Christmas spirit, the concert promises to be a joyful evening filled with some of the most beloved Christmas tunes.
The Astral String Quartet and Linda McGann, two renowned and extremely skilled professional musicians in their own right, will accompany the choir for the Christmas concert.
