October Sports Star of the Month – Peter Egan
WATCH:
PETER Egan’s tremendous season reached its climax when he captured gold in the ICF World Masters Canoe Marathon Championships in the China last month.
The Lucan kayaker had won bronze in the European equivalent in France back in July when the high temperature had taking its toll and saw him finish behind Spanish pair Jesus Rodriguez and Pablo Zamora and ahead of Pier Siersma from the Netherlands in fourth.

This time around he got the better of European champion, Rodriguez to top the podium on the global stage.
Over 19km, the track that Egan battled through consisted of five laps, four portages and one small lap to finish it out.
“I struggled in the Europeans with the heat but the climate here suited me better” said Egan. “It was a lot cooler and there was a small wind on the lake.”
Back home, Egan also captured the Men’s K1 title at the 60th annual Liffey Descent for the very first time.
