On This Day in 1981: Bluebell jam factory chimney reduced to rubble
On this day in 1981 the well-known chimney at the former Lambs Jam Factory in Bluebell disappeared from the Dublin skyline.
A landmark on the Naas Road for nearly 70 years, the chimney was the last remaining structure of the factory, which had moved to new premises.
Many will remember the 106 foot chimney, and it only took seconds for the structure to crumble after explosives were detonated.
Young children and other residents from the area watched on as the demolition team from John J Duffy Ltd packed the base of the chimney with 33 pounds of explosives.
