One Man Show: About a compulsive liar named Tom Moran

The one man show ‘Tom Moran’ is set to come to the Studio Theatre in the Civic from July 20-22.

The show follows the life of Tom Moran, who stars in the show as himself. The story line draws inspiration from his own life dating back to his time as a child.

“As a kid I told an absolutely insane lie, and the show is about that little boy who lies, growing into a man who still lies.

“So really, this show is about going right back, back to your past to salvage your future,” explained Tom.

This refreshingly honest and authentic show is a cutting portrayal of what empathy truly means, and how forgiveness can be found in the relationships that matter the most.

Tom invites any prospective audience member to come see the performance, and says the show is: “For open-hearted people, who are kind and empathetic, comedy-lovers who are interested in mental health.

“It’s for people-pleasers, anyone who’s ever told a lie (which, let’s be real, is us all).

“More specifically though, we’ve had a lot of parents in, often with adult kids, because it’s definitely about that parent-child dynamic.

The core relationship is about me and my mam about discoveries I made during therapy,” he continued.

Tom sees a lot of himself in the Tom he has conjured for this play, for both better and for worse.

“I am Tom.

“In fact that was always the point of the show.

“Tom Moran is a Big Fat Filthy Disgusting Liar is a very honest show – about lying.

“But Tom, as a character, is relatable.

He’s messy, flawed, nuanced, and complex.

And I think that was always the point of the show, to give voice to the things we’re not able to say.

But to do it in a way that’s funny, honest, authentic, joyous and raw,” he said.

‘Tom Moran’ will weave through an array of emotions, ones that promise to make the audience both laugh and cry as Tom embarks on the journey to trust that who he truly is, is enough.

A winner of Fishamble’s New Writing Award at Dublin Fringe and described as: “The most searingly honest and moving show of the year” by the Arts Review, ‘Tom Moran’ is sure to impress as this charismatic people pleaser reckons with the notion of honesty despite the potential consequences.
