At the Cherry Orchard Parkrun on Saturday

Orchard 100th parkrun

THERE was a fantastic turnout for the 100th junior parkrun at Cherry Orchard with over 65 kids taking part in the weekly race.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste stepped in to be the warm up leader for the 2k event, as part of the anniversary celebration on Sunday morning.

It featured runners from far and wide, including one young lad who plans to participate in every parkrun in the country.

Ann Geraghty, PRO Cherry Orchard Running Club said: “Wow, what a morning we had at the 100th junior parkrun at Cherry Orchard. It was a fantastic morning with a record turnout of 66 parkrunners. We had visitors from Trim and Waterford joining us.

“We were honoured to hear about Mateusz (Kurowski) choosing Cherry Orchard for his 100th parkrun. What a brilliant achievement. The 13 personal bests and 16 first-timers further highlighted the positive energy of our event. Kudos to Rhys (Daly) who was first home this morning. Rhys has completed all of the Dublin parkruns and is now tackling the rest of Ireland. First lady home this morning was Annabelle (O’Toole).”

Cherry Orchard Running Club support the junior parkrun along with Dublin City Council, Dublin Sports and Wellbeing Partnership, Familibase, Ballyfermot Chapelozid Partnership and volunteers.

The club thanked the Mayor for his support and to all of their “super volunteers and parents for contributing to the success of our parkrun.”

“Special thanks to Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership for sponsoring the amazing medals for all the boys and girls, who show up every week and are all fantastic.”

Cherry Orchard junior parkrun is held every Sunday at 9:30am at Cherry Orchard Park.

It is free to join for kids aged 4 to 14 year olds.
