Orchard Lane nearing transfer to Council
By Maurice Garvey
THE legal process of transferring a vacant unit to the hands of South Dublin County Council is reportedly at an “advanced stage”, reports Maurice Garvey
SDCC are currently engaged with legal representatives from the management company who represent the unit at Orchard Lane in Clondalkin Village.
Orchard Lane is soon to be transferred to the Council
Provision of a community space was included as a condition of the original disposal of the Orchard Lane premises in 2002, but the title was not transferred to SDCC.
The premises forms part of a mixed-use development.
The SDCC law agent has been corresponding with the solicitor representing the unit for close to a year.
Independent councillor Francis Timmons has long called for the site to be perfect as a location for the Clondalkin Men’s Shed and be utilised for a senior citizen hub.
Recently, he asked SDCC for an update with the legal negotiations between the local authority’s law agent and the solicitor representing the unit.
Use as a community facility
In response, SDCC said: “The conveyance of this unit into council ownership is at an advanced stage.
“The council are currently actively engaging with the legal representatives for the management company and the lessor for required legal documentation. The long-term plan for the unit will be use as a community facility.”
Last year the council said once the title issue is settled, a costing will be carried out to establish the “nature of the works required to bring the unit to a useable standard.”
