Orchard’s Actavo Cup proves huge success
CHERRY Orchard FC stage another hugely successful Actavo Cup Tournament in Elmdale last weekend.
Involving teams from Liverpool, Newcastle, Swansea, Aberdeen, Celtic, St Patrick’s Athletic and the host club as well as the FAI’s International Emerging Talent Under 13 squad, this year’s competition produced some hugely exciting encounters.
It was Aberdeen who emerged the overall winners, edging out Scottish rivals Celtic 2-1 in the final to raise the 2018 Actavo Cup.
Cherry Orchard picked up this year’s Actavo Shield following their 5-3 penalty shootout win over Newcastle in the decider.
A 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool denied St Pat’s the Actavo Plate while the Actavo Trophy went the way of Swansea City after they carded a narrow 2-1 triumph over the FAI Emerging Talent side in their final.
Delighted with the success off the tournament that culminated in a thrilling final, Tournament Director Mark O’Neill said: “Aberdeen and Celtic contested the main Actavo Cup Final in a pulsating, end-to-end game played in a fantastic spirit.
“The quality of football at this year’s tournament was excellent from start to finish which was enjoyed by large crowds over the weekend.
“We are absolutely delighted with the amount of supporters who turned up to watch our tournament this year.
“The number of people who came along to support the games were up based on last year’s figures, which is a terrific result for us.
“It was a huge success and we are already planning to go bigger and better again in 2019 with aspirations to invite the likes of Barcelona, Juventus, Ajax, PSG, Bayern Munich and Manchester United,” he added.
