Over €5.5m enhancement plan for Corkagh Park

A PLAN to enhance the visitor experience at Corkagh Park could see the introduction of markets, a café, and a year-round indoor facility to stage events.
South Dublin County Council estimates that it will cost approximately €5.6m for the project.

Plans have been in the works since 2016 to rebrand and enhance the park as a major regional destination, with improved biodiversity, heritage, and accessibility.
A final report on the improvement plans for the Clondalkin park, was presented to members at the council meeting on Monday evening.
Among the proposals listed for revenue opportunities, are a year-round, all-weather destination to facilitate family entertainment events, the provision of space for markets, and a semi-permanent café within a designated park plaza.
Early Phase 1 works proposed (one to two years) will see the construction of a new sports pavilion, resurfacing works at St John’s Wood entrance, and play space improvements.
This will be followed by Phase 2 works (two to five years) which include a fairy woodland trail, the development of camping facilities, seating for picnic areas, and viewing decks around lakes.

Speaking a number of months ago, John Curran TD said it is a “very exciting time for Corkagh Park” and it’s playground, which “had become dated in recent years” compared to new playgrounds installed at places like Griffeen Valley Park in Lucan.
“Many residents had contacted my office in relation to the surface at the playground being inaccessible for children with disabilities and for buggies and prams, so I am delighted to hear that the surface and access is a priority for the council,” he said.
The council expect to finalise a delivery plan, including final cost plans for the project, in the first quarter of 2020.
