Owner issues warning as dog left bleeding heavily after being injured by firework

A defenceless dog was left bleeding heavily and needing medical attention this morning after being injured by a firework in Ballinteer.

Hannah O’Byrne was walking her three dogs near Meadowbrook when a group of three people threw the firework at the dog before running off.

Pictures shared by Hannah show Penny covered in blood, and she immediately brought her beloved pet to the vet.

Speaking to Echo.ie this afternoon, Hannah said: “I’ve three dogs, Miller, who hates fireworks anyway, Miley and Penny.

“I was picking up after Miller, heard a bang, looked over and saw three people running away and Penny lying on the ground.”

Hannah also took to Facebook to warn others, saying: “Why harm an animal? What type of sick person would do that?

“I’ll never understand the actions of people that want to cause harm to other people but especially cause harm to animals.

“Luckily I got her to the vet on time. Please share this post to warn others about the dangers of these scumbags and especially fireworks.

“I’d like to think something was watching over penny this morning, she’s very lucky that it didn’t kill her.”
