Palmerstown school wins award at BT Young Scientist

Students from Tallaght, Lucan and Clondalkin took part in the annual BT Young Scientist Awards, with projects covering a diverse range of topics this year.

Local schools that took part included Pobailscoil Iosolde in Palmerstown, Colaiste Phadraig in Lucan, Pobalscoil Iosolde in Palmerstown, Kishoge Community and Adamstown Community College.

Dylan Bagnall and Richard Beattie of The King’s Hospital in Palmerstown came first in the intermediate group of Biological & Ecological Sciences for their project, which used a bat detector called Raspberry Bat Pi

The duo also won an additional reward from the Irish Research Council for their research

Simon Meehan of Coláiste Choilm, Cork, was named the winner of the BT Young Scientist Awards 2018 for his investigation of the antimicrobial effects of plants against Staphylococcus aureus.
