Parking fines amount to a collosal €324,000 to date

OVER €220,000 in parking fines have been collected by South Dublin County Council this year to date – from January 1 to August 15, 2024.

The vast majority of violations are for vehicles which do not have tickets for Pay&Display or permit parking.

Cllr Justin Sinnott (SocDems) asked the council to provide details on the number of parking fines issued this year by private contracted parking services that have contracts with South Dublin County Council.

Cllr Sinnott also asked for a breakdown of specific parking breaches.

In response, SDCC provided data which reveals a total number of violations/tickets issued to be 6,735 for the period January 1 to August 15.

The value of tickets issued so far this year is €324,000 and €220,000 has been collected to date.

Pay&Display/lack of permits are way out in front as the main cause of violations, with 3,798 such cases to date in 2024. This represents 56 per cent of all parking violations in the county.

In second place is ‘parking a vehicle on a footway’ (722 cases), followed by ‘parking on a double yellow line’ (580 cases).

Other violations include ‘parking in a loading bay’ (211), ‘parking on a roadway with less than three lanes where there is a continuous white line’ (186), and ‘parking in a way that obstructs traffic’ (180).

Meanwhile, 140 vehicles were busted for parking in a disabled spot, while 85 were rumbled after parking on a cycle lane.

Up to 31 fines were issued to motorists for parking or stopping near a school entrance, and 29 cars were fined for parking at a taxi stand.
